Sunday in Bronco Country

All the really cool kids are at the game in New Jersey.  We will be spending the day here at home watching the game.  The sky is a blue, blue, blue.  It is amazingly beautiful outside to see snow topped trees and houses glimmering with diamond dust snow that sparkles all the more in the brilliant sunshine.  The contrast of white snow against the blue sky nearly takes my breath away.  Of course, in Bronco country, we are all hoping that the sky will be a blazing orange tonight.  As some would say, "Who says God isn't a Bronco fan?"  The photo below is one making its rounds on FaceBook today.  I love seeing the majesty of America's mountain, my very own Pikes Peak, surrounded by such a beautiful sunset.

A few loved ones are the lucky ones who were actually able to go to the game in person.  My very own son-in-law, married to my husband's daughter, is living the dream of every young man's life this week:  He is with the team, yes the team itself, rubbing shoulders with Manning and Elway and all the rest, as they have been preparing for the big game.  Here he is with Coach John Fox and Pat Bowlen, majority owner and CEO of the Broncos.

While attending the Super Bowl is a brand new experience for Nathan, rubbing shoulders with the players is not.  He has the dream second job of working as a referee for Bronco weekday practices.  He not only rubs shoulders with Broncos players, he throws the ball to Manning himself, and he makes the calls during practice.  Last year, well we shouldn't speak of last year, he thought he'd make the trip with team.  This year he did make the trip that will hold a lifetime of memories for him.  He will be sitting in the stands cheering the team on.  I can't even imagine how excited he must be.  I am so happy for you Nathan.  He deserves this great opportunity.

Nathan flew out last Sunday on this all expense paid trip east wearing his very best suit which was the required dress code for the trip.  He was feted with the best array of food that anyone could think of on the flight itself.  You have to keep those men fed.  While in New York, athan takes his breakfast and lunch with the team.  Each week, he actually eats dinner prepared by the team chefs after every practice.

Others are there too.  My former son-in-law is there with his entire family of father, step-mother, and all of his siblings.  Julie's boyfriend Jason is there.  Like I said, all the really cool kids are there.

I'm here writing an blog post before I go in to fix us some sloppy Joe's to eat during the game.  I'm dressed in my Bronco shirt, and have on my lucky blue earrings made by my friend Judy. I even put on more blue eyeshadow than usual today.   I decided to take a selfie on my computer to post here.  Note that the glasses had to go on so I could see what I was doing.

Before I can cook, I must run to the store for a few things.  I'll put on my orange coat before I go.

GO BRONCOS!  We are all back home under a clear blue sky cheering you on.

  1. So happy for Nathan! What a thrill for him.

We'll be watching from home, too, with a few neighbors. Everybody's bringing something: chili, cornbread, guac, veggies. I made pasticcio and crab dip -- no, not typical, but what we like.

Glad it's not too cold in NJ. Manning should do pretty well. I want to see him win; I have a lot of respect for him.

PS I like your glasses. Did you see the ad for Lenscrafter's "How can you see your glasses without your glasses"? Great question!

  3. Love your selfie! I decided to get my eyes examined and a new prescription, prompted by that commercial where the lady doesn't realize it's not her cat she's letting in, but a raccoon! I laughed but realized I'm not seeing everything perfectly any more. And I will be happy whatever happens in the game, but my loyalties have shifted from Horse to Hawk! Love you so much, Sally. :-)

  5. Hi, I'm watching the Big Super Bowl game AND the commercials with one eye --and blogging with the other. The lady who sang the National Anthem was AWESOME, best I've heard that song sung in YEARS... Wow!!!!

Nathan is one lucky man... Wow.... Hope the Broncos win. You know that I'm a huge Peyton fan --since he went to UT.

Have a great evening.. Hope they win... So far, not so much!
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  6. I was cheering them on, but Hubby couldn't watch anymore and has turned the TV off. Guess we will learn tomorrow if Manning and Company made a comeback.

  7. I only watch the Super Bowl for the commercials to the consternation of my husband. He kept groaning and shouting, laughing and exclaiming throughout the game. I'm sorry your team didn't win. We are a Chicago Cubs family so we understand your pain. And as we always say... There's always next year...

  8. Living out of the country keeps us from the hype of this game but I know from my own family in the US how excited fans get about it.

  9. I could not stand to watch most of the game..We lived in Denver and Aurora, for many years, we were there before John Elway, the people are season ticket holders and deeply devoted..I felt so bad for Peyton Manning I nearly puked my guts out, we live in Washington state almost 36 years soon, we much preferred Colorful Colorado the blue skies all the time and the lovely people, here it rains mostly 200 plus days of the year for some reason there is a big drought coming and I still have moss on my patio door step and in our lawn..The people are not like Denver and all of Colorado, not friendly, we are but most people here are hungry and homeless and unemployed and angry..we long for some nice dry weather and people..The game was so one-sided we did not even know the final results..it was too painful to watch an elite athlete and his elite team get routed by a bunch of loud mouthed youngins up in Seattle, we have never been Seahawks fans and never will be..I enjoy your blog, where you live and what you blog about of colorful Colorado..You are a wonderful human being and your hubs sounds wonderful! My hubs is jewish the jewish people in Denver treated us like we were their family it was wonderful..Maybe next year who knows, ciaoX()

  10. I'm so sorry your team didn't win yesterday. Like Kay said, I'm a Cubbie so I get it. But I hope everyone in your pack who went out there had a wonderful time nonetheless -- despite the loss, it had to be fun!

  11. Hi Sally. Well, by now you are both probably commiserating with each other! I am so sorry that the Bronco's couldn't do it for you, but i hope you won't be sad for too long!

  12. My condolences on Denver's loss. I was rooting for them too, but have to say watching the game was painful.

  13. I take it you didn't win. Well its the being there that counts, isn't it?

  14. How exciting for your son-in-law! But I'm so sorry the game turned out to be such a disappointment. We were rooting on the Broncos here, too, and watched the game on my son's huge TV. We're Bears fans, and they're Colts fans, but we've all been big fans of Peyton Manning since he played with the Colts. I'm sorry, too, because I probably brought them bad luck--whichever team I root for usually loses:)

  15. Well, Sally, it's all long done now. Seattle is celebrating with a parade tomorrow and Denver isn't. I am slowly trying to catch up on blog reading but I'm having my issues with my recovery so it is slow going.
I love the sunset photo with the Broncos logo.
It was kind of funny reading all of the comments. We see our team as a bunch of fun loving young guys who have fine tuned their talents under a coach who thinks football should be about having fun. And they certainly were having fun Sunday.
We tell ourselves, when we lose here in Seattle, that is is only a game, after all. We move on. You all will too.
