Its certainly a national tragedy that all the wars since have cost untold in lives and treasure and diverted us from such a noble causetroutbirderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14087811292280881959noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7041834369094012241.post-63847145800350356422015-04-29T13:55:27.018-06:002015-04-29T13:55:27.018-06:00Phew! I believe whole-heartedly, too, in the idea that education is the key (or one, at least) in breaking the cycle of poverty. My daughter has been a Head Start volunteer and, as part of her graduate work, is involved in nutritional programs for children. Sadly, the need is just as great today as it was in the 60's.

Rosehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01384059342847120951noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7041834369094012241.post-35406003367932754372015-04-28T21:29:22.228-06:002015-04-28T21:29:22.228-06:00I liked reading about you summer position with Hea...I liked reading about you summer position with Head Start, Sally. It sounds like you had a wonderful mentor. Those of us who were taken under the wing of a gifted teacher are very lucky. I always thought that it did alot of good to the children.

I began my teaching career in 1965 teaching Choral Music, Math and English at a high school in Knoxville, TN... I was GREENER than GREEN --but did well, even teaching that English Class (which I was not even certified to teach).. I did minor in Math and major in Music --so teaching both Math and Music was easy...

Now when I meet those kids that I taught during those first years of teaching, I realize, from what they say, that I 'did' make a difference in their lives.. Back when I was teaching, I never thought of it that way!!!!! Teachers are special though ---so I'll close with one statement: "God Bless TEACHERS--including YOU"

Hugs,
BetsyBetsy Banks Adamshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16223591156634767330noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7041834369094012241.post-36048723375128244472015-04-28T08:17:25.767-06:002015-04-28T08:17:25.767-06:00How special that you still have that meaningful le...How special that you still have that meaningful letter from someone you really admired.
