Hibernation
The sky is blue.
The snow is melting.
The paper whites are fading.
Winter.
Is is it over?
Colorado,
you confuse me at times.
The view from my window says come outside and play in the sun.
Are brumal days and nights over?
Is Mama Bear being tempted on this fine winter morning to emerge from her hibernaculum?
Her secret winter home,
dug within the hillside
covered with majestic Ponderosa pines
that I see outside my window,
may also be heating up in this weather.
Will she be out today?
Or will she,
like I,
prefer to stay tucked inside a cozy den
where one does not have to deal with the vicissitudes of weather and life?
A wonderful poem and perfect for the day. We are having a very light winter. So light, in fact, that I fear we will be slammed big time in due course. I am contemplating a visit to your part of the world later this spring. A cousin in CSprings has a very serious cancer. Right now wouldn't be a good time to visit as they are doing clinical trials and traveling to Houston every couple of weeks and of course there is recovery time between appointments. But I am keeping an eye out on it. My visit with them would probably be rather short, given her health but you are there and I have a very dear friend in Boulder and another in Denver, so it's a possibility. We'll be playing by ear. Meanwhile, I wait patiently for winter to end, even the cold.
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful here right now, so I'm going down to Florida to escape the nonexistent rain and cold here. I'll be with my sister, and she is the main reason for my trip. Love your poem, Sally. :-)
ReplyDeleteI actually did hibernate all day yesterday under my bedcovers!!!
ReplyDeleteI'll go back into hibernation later this week when the cold rain returns. Gotta' go outside when the sun shines.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful poem Sally
